When John Vujcich realised a farm slasher had savaged his leg, and he could bleed to death before he got to safety, he had a moment of great despair.
I held out my leg and I thought, Ive lost my foot. What am I going to do; Ive killed myself.
The 2013 accident is still fresh in the mind of the Far North District councillor, as it changed his perspective about the importance of rescue helicopters.

Kiwis are being urged to show greater compassion to the family at the centre of the latest Covid-19 outbreak.
Auckland councillor for the Manukau Ward Efeso Collins has been messaging the family and said now was a time for the community to stick together.
With some people taking to social media to denigrate the family, Collins told Newstalk ZB’s Heather du Plessis-Allan Kiwis were “better” than that.

Few Aucklanders out and about in the Super City seem to be choosing to wear masks in public, despite Covid-19 being back in the community.
Auckland is currently in level 3 lockdown, masks are now mandatory for people on domestic flights, and strongly urged for everyone else in public.
On Thursday morning Stuff found fewer than one in five Aucklanders were wearing masks while going for walks, runs or coffee.
